Swagelok Northwest (US) is the Swagelok authorized sales and service center providing the highest quality products, services and fluid systems training for the Pacific Northwest and Alaska. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer with experience in the semiconductor industry to be part of the Swagelok Field Engineering Program. The ideal candidate will have technical and customer facing ability to easily partner with our customers and leverage experience while working alongside them to optimize fluid systems and develop solutions to fit whatever they need.

You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive improvements, enhance system performance, and ensure efficient and reliable operation of fluid systems. The Mechanical Engineer will also support other Swagelok Sales and Service Centers and their end users in specific regions that are strategic and critical to Swagelok Company.

POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of a Mechanical Engineer will be to work alongside our customers to identify and implement innovative solutions to optimize fluid systems used in semiconductor manufacturing processes. They will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to drive improvements, enhance system performance, and ensure efficient and reliable operation of fluid systems. The Mechanical Engineer will also support other Swagelok Sales and Service Centers and their end users in specific regions that are strategic and critical to Swagelok Company.  In addition, the Mechanical Engineer will develop and provide fluid handling solutions in coordination with Swagelok and local design and assembly teams.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Solution discovery: Proactively identify areas for optimization and improvement within existing fluid systems used in semiconductor manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborative problem-solving: Collaborate with equipment engineers, process specialists, and other stakeholders to drive cross-functional problem-solving initiatives and address challenges related to semiconductor fluid systems.
  • Process analysis: Conduct comprehensive analysis of fluid system performance, identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas of improvement.
  • Innovation and implementation: Develop solutions and strategies to optimize fluid systems, including modifications, upgrades, and enhancements which focus on and pull through Swagelok products.
  • Performance monitoring: Implement monitoring systems to track and evaluate fluid system performance, collecting and analyzing data to identify trends and opportunities for optimization.
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostics: Utilize advanced diagnostic techniques to identify and resolve complex issues related to fluid systems, ensuring optimal performance, and minimizing downtime.
  • Documentation and reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of optimization activities, including findings, recommendations, and implementation plans. Generate reports to communicate results and provide actionable insights to internal teams and customers.
  • Training and support: Provide technical training and support to internal teams and customers on fluid system optimization strategies, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Ensure alignment with the Custom Solution Policy and Swagelok Quality System procedures.
  • Assist with projects and special assignments.
  • Support the technical resolution of product returns and customer complaints/concerns.
  • Supports the development, coordination, and implementation of industry sales plans designed to increase existing business and capture new opportunities for purposes of sales and revenue growth.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Education

Education: Bachelors or masters degree in mechanical engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Technical: Minimum of 3 years of experience in optimizing fluid systems, preferably within the semiconductor industry
  • Customer: Minimum of 1 year (preferred 3 years) interacting closely with customers as a strategic business partner

  • Technical skills:
    • Strong knowledge of fluid mechanics, fluid dynamics, and fluid system components commonly found in semiconductor gas and liquid applications.
    • Familiarity with semiconductor manufacturing processes and equipment.
    • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to fluid systems in semiconductor manufacturing.
  • Problem-solving and innovative thinking: Ability to think creatively, identify solutions, and implement novel approaches to optimize fluid systems.

EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS

  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite
  • Proficiency using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks)
  • Use of mechanical tools to build assemblies

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Sitting/standing for extended periods
  • Operation of keyboard/office equipment for extended periods
  • Standard warehouse and shop environment including associated tools and safe working practices
  • Travel required which includes overnight stays,
  • Ability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds
